POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for the scheduling, reviewing, and training of lifeguards as well as providing a safe environment for all participants in and around the pool. Head lifeguard is a role model to other lifeguards when on duty. The head lifeguard will be scheduled for lifeguarding shifts and secondary responsibilities as needed for program demand. The head lifeguard may assist with administrative tasks pertinent to successful operation of Aquatics Department and programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Must be computer proficient using Microsoft Office software programs and previous experience with database software programs.
· Schedule guards.
· Practice preventive lifeguard procedures by following and policies and completing a routine check of pool and deck area.
· Engage in positive public relations with participants.
· Assist in preparation and facilitation of all lifeguard in-services/training, staff meetings and assigned guard drills.
· Complete new lifeguard orientations for new hires welcoming new team members.
· Support decision and policies with fellow lifeguards, supervisors, and participants.
· Practice preventive lifeguard procedures by following and enforcing pool rules and policies and completing a routine check of the pool, and deck area.
· Engage in positive public relations with participants.
· Perform rescues and emergency procedures in accordance with facility policies.
· Attend all trainings, staff meetings.
· Check and record water temperature and chemical levels and notify supervisor of any irregularities.
· Maintain and properly log accurate statistics per DHEC regulations and as directed.
· Document all accidents/incidents on proper form and report to supervisor immediately.
· Perform all maintenance as assigned.
· Here at the YMCA we are a team, there may be other duties as assigned.
· Assists the Director in the planning and execution of high-quality programs to meet community needs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of Staff.
· Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
· Assists Aquatics Director to ensure staff completes all trainings.
Requirements
· Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Must have all necessary Red Cross Aquatic Certifications or be willing to obtain these certifications. Including but not limited to: Blood borne Pathogens, Lifeguard and Professional Rescuer/CPR/FIRST AID/AED/O2, YSL v6 Swim Lesson Instructor, WSI or LGI.
· Must have good interpersonal relationship skills.
· Must be initiative-taking and be able to work as part of a team.
· Must believe in the mission of the YMCA and be able to exhibit the mission statement in both personal and professional life.
