Public Works Engineering Intern
The City of Spokane Engineering Services Department is looking for a temp-seasonal worker to join our public works team and contribute to our city's success. This position will work with the Engineering Services, Water, and Wastewater Management departments on various entry-level engineering tasks, including environmental review, investigations, preliminary designs, etc., under the supervision of an engineer. Work will be spread amongst the three departments. Most of the work will be office-based, with some fieldwork.
This position requires 30-40 hours of work per week during the summer. The ideal candidate should be able to continue working part-time for 10-20 hours per week during the school year. The start date is negotiable and can be set between mid-March and mid-May 2025.

Each of these departments employs engineers and is expected to have position openings in the next one to three years, making this an ideal time to enhance your career prospects.The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
- Performs engineering calculations and evaluates layout and design proposals to ensure compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and codes.
- As assigned, conducts various types of studies and surveys, compiles and analyzes statistics, and participates in the writing of engineering reports.
- Makes complex computations and time and material estimates.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of sophomore year in a civil engineering program and an interest in a transportation engineering career; completion of junior year preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):
- Ability to perceive and understand fine print, such as specifications.
- Ability to communicate with a telephone.
- Ability to move and position self in order to collect field data, including at ground level.
- Ability to occasionally move supplies or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.
