Engineering Intern
The City of Spokane Integrated Capital Management Department is looking for temp-seasonal workers to be a part of our winning team and contribute to the success of our city. This position performs Transportation and Utility Engineering work. The Transportation work will include investigations, studies, designs, and operational reviews under the supervision of an engineer. Limited exercise of judgment is required in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Utility work could include investigations and studies in service of the City’s Water and Wastewater Management departments under the supervision of an engineer. Employee has routine contact with other employees and some public contact. Duties are sedentary to light in nature, occasionally performed under various weather conditions, and require sustained periods of concentration.
Temp-seasonal employees will work full-time during the summer. The ideal candidate can continue working part-time 15-20 hours a week during the school year.
The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
- Performs engineering calculations and evaluates layout and design proposals to ensure compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and codes.
- As assigned, conducts various types of studies and surveys, compiles and analyzes statistics, and participates in writing engineering reports.
- Makes complex computations and time and material estimates.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of sophomore year in a civil engineering program and an interest in a transportation engineering career; completion of junior year preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to perceive and understand fine print, such as specifications.
- Ability to communicate with a telephone.
- Ability to move and position self in order to collect field data, including at ground level.
- Ability to occasionally move supplies or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.
