The City of Springfield's Finance Department is seeking a Purchasing Agent for its Purchasing Division. This role will involve planning, coordinating, and overseeing the procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and services for various city departments, boards, and agencies. It is a key position within the division, responsible for supervising a team of seven employees, ranging from Purchasing Assistants to Senior Buyers. A strong understanding of proper procurement processes is highly preferred.
The Purchasing Division within the Finance Department handles the procurement of a wide range of products and services for numerous city departments, including Police, Fire, Public Works, Springfield-Branson Airport, Dickerson Park Zoo, Environmental Works, Information Systems, Health, Parks, and more. The division specializes in the procurement of highly technical and complex products and services.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Materials Management, Business Administration or other appropriate discipline;
- Four years of progressively responsible and professional experience, including some supervision of purchasing professionals.
- Directly related public sector procurement experience may be substituted for some of the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis, combined with an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or an active certification from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) as a Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO).
- Public sector experience.
Licensing/Certification
- Certification as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing;
- Or as a Certified Purchasing Manager by the Institute of Supply Management is desired.

Salary : $56,035 - $93,850
