Youth Sports Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor of Youth Programs, performs various tasks as necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community. Specifically responsible for youth programs for youth ages 3-18. During programs, the Recreation Coordinator assists in the planning and implementation of various youth programs, including camps and afterschool programs, along with providing supervision of youth participants and overseeing the work of other part time employees and volunteers.

• May be delegated tasks normally performed by full time employees

• Oversees the work of other part time employees and volunteers during assigned shifts or tasks

• Registers participants for programs, classes and activities

• Provide customer service in person and over the phone; answering questions and/or referring customers to appropriate staff members.

• Responds to public inquiries providing accurate information regarding recreation programs and services.

• Performs money-handling duties according to City and division policies and procedures.

• General office and clerical duties

• Copies and prepares various brochures, flyers, schedules, rosters, etc. for distribution.

• Organizes, cleans, prepares and maintains recreation facilities and other work areas

• Works programs and special events

• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing other related duties as needed

• Aids in the promotion and advertising of programs and special events and ensures that the mission

and program policy are known to all participants.

• Assists in staff training, assignments, and recruiting

• Assists in providing feedback and evaluation to the Recreation Supervisor

• Coordinates with sponsors and helps to create new partnerships.

• Manages inventory controls and oversees the proper use, safety, and security of all

• supplies, and makes requests to the Recreation supervisor for purchase of equipment needed.

• Follow all city policies and procedures

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or

hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to

emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally

and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of

human behavior.

Note: Youth Programs: Must be available during in-office hours. Mandatory on site during

programs, typically weekday afternoons during August-May.

Summer program hours vary throughout the week. This is a part-time position with

variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field, including the field of education.

Experience:

• Minimum two years of personal and/or professional experience coordinating, programming and

leading youth and/or family-oriented recreation activities required; three years experience

preferred.

• Minimum two years personal and/or professional experience working with youth required.

• One year of customer service experience required.

• Cash handling experience preferred.

• Experience overseeing the work of other employees preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days

of hire and be maintained throughout employment.

• CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and

maintained throughout employment.

• Utah Food Handlers Permit preferred but not required

General knowledge of recreation and leisure activities and programming practices preferred.

events, classes, or facilities.

• Plan and exercise judgment in new or constantly changing problems and situations.

• Show good judgment in preventing injuries and responding to recreation related injuries based on

an understanding of risk management.

• Establish good community relations.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, civic

organizations and the public.

• Work independently

Pay: From $16.85 per hour
