Job Summary
LIBRARIAN I - Temporary, Part-Time (3 Positions Available!)
Performs responsible professional work in a public library environment. Includes coordination of full range of public services. Limited supervision is exercised over part-time employees. Assumes oversight of daily operation in collaboration with other Librarian(s) in absence of Library Director. Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule which will include some evening and weekend assignments. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Library Director.
Essential Job Functions
Provides expertise in technology software and hardware for patrons and staff. Assists patrons in full range of standard, user-centered public services. Participates in program design, presentation, and promotion for various audiences, including community outreach activities with an emphasis on technology instruction. Explores opportunities for additional technologies relevant to library environment including databases. Demonstrates effective supervisory and communication skills. Maintains records; prepares reports as assigned.
- Plans and coordinates public services, including circulation, reference and extensive patron support with various technologies and e-resources
- Schedules public desk service; makes adjustments as needed
- Limited supervision of part-time employees with primary assignments in public service delivery
- Assists with copy cataloging in collaboration with Library Director
- Assists with collection development in collaboration with Library Director
- Serves assigned hours in all public service Circulation functions, frontline technical assistance, reader’s advisory, and reference assistance
- Provides expertise in age-appropriate use of materials by young users and parents
- Participates in creating PR strategies for promoting programming, collections and services, with special attention to community outreach
- Participates in strategic planning, policy development, and budget proposals
- Understands technical processes to ensure library collections are accessible to readers
- Leads special projects as assigned
- Collects and compiles information and assists in formulation of special reports as required
- Participates in PPLC Special Interest Groups, as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications
- A Master's degree from an ALA- accredited college or university with major course work in library and information science.
- Two years of increasingly professional and technical library experience highly desirable.
- Studies or experience in effective supervision/management preferred.
Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

Physical Requirements
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data; operation of a variety of equipment and technical devices; determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
