Job Summary
The City of St. Peters is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual with a strong background in horticulture, forestry, and landscape maintenance. The ideal candidate will lead a team responsible for a variety of outdoor landscaping tasks with a primary emphasis on forestry including tree felling, pruning, hazard mitigation, inventorying, planting, and general forestry maintenance. Field work includes all aspects of horticulture work along Parks and trails including shrub, perennial, seasonal annual plantings, project deadlines, construction oversite, and landscape design in improving aesthetics and habitats. Work includes land stewardship, invasive species control, and reforesting. The City supports advanced training to continue developing knowledge and skills which routinely includes ISA Certified Arborist Certification, safety training, and leadership.
Normal Shift: Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise work crews in horticulture, arboriculture, and landscaping tasks.
- Oversee the implementation and management of the City's Memorial Tree Program.
- Plan and execute Parks projects, including tree installation, maintenance, and removal.
- Manage holiday decorating programs and vegetation management efforts.
- Interact with City residents regarding tree health, management, and the Memorial Tree Program.
- Perform routine maintenance of park grounds, landscaping, and public vegetation.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment required for landscaping and tree care.
- Train crew members on proper safety protocols, equipment use, and work methods.
- Respond to resident inquiries and provide guidance on tree care and management.
- Ensure all work adheres to City safety standards and guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High School graduate or GED certificate and four (4) years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a Class "A" CDL valid in the state of Missouri or obtain within 120 days of employment. Commercial drivers' instruction permit (CDIP) must be obtained with- in 60 days of employment.
- Skilled in the operation of light and heavy equipment.
- Moderate ability to operate a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles in work activities related to the work unit.
