What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Technician (Residential Recycling) position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is work in the operation of motorized sanitation equipment in the Recycling Division, as well as providing a broad range of important sanitation services. Work involves both driving and riding on the back of a rear loader servicing 95-gallon containers; shuttling heavy vehicles to and from work sites and repair facilities; driving heavy duty automated collection vehicles within the Sanitation complex, as well as to and from dumpsites to conduct debris removal; manually collecting a variety of residential materials. Work includes operation of rear loader recycling and solid waste collection trucks, occasional operation of side loader recycling and solid waste collection trucks, the coordination of minor maintenance and routine servicing activities to include checking and adding oil, filling the fuel tank, and checking tire inflation and fluid levels; manual work using small tools and equipment such as rakes and shovels; manual lifting of household discards such as furniture and appliances; and operating spraying equipment to address odorous and unsanitary conditions. This position will occasionally be scheduled to work holiday, weekend, and evening shifts.
Salary: $23.02 - $32.63 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License.
- Have some experience in the operation and routine servicing of sanitation collection equipment.
- Be able to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
- Be able to maintain routine written records and reports of activities.
- Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have considerable knowledge of a wide variety of sanitation support activities.
- Have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- Have some knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
- Are skilled in the safe operation of sanitation vehicles and equipment.
