Under general supervision, enhances public awareness of programs and services provided by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office by creating, organizing, coordinating, scheduling, and conducting educational and informational outreach to the community, including civic groups, schools, churches, fraternal organizations, and other groups. Work requires comprehensive knowledge of the policies, practices, methods, objectives, and goals of the Commonwealth Attorney's Office and the overall criminal justice system. Employee independently creates and provides presentations and speeches to small and large groups, requiring public speaking skill; and completes extensive research to prepare, design, compose, and compile educational literature and informative displays relating to criminal activity and community public safety issues. Employee must work independently, exercise sound judgment, and employ creativity and initiative in completing all tasks; must exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public, media representatives, and City Officials; and must possess the ability to work well with members of the Suffolk community.

- Acts as community liaison for the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney; serves as primary contact for citizens, agencies, schools, or other local groups requesting presentations or guest speakers; coordinates presentation and training events; schedules, coordinates, and conducts tours of The Mills E. Godwin, Jr. Courts Building
- Consults with Commonwealth's Attorney on issues of concern as voiced by members of the community; communicates and interacts tactfully and courteously with elected officials, members of the general public, media, outside agencies, and other groups
- Maintains comprehensive current knowledge of services and programs of Commonwealth's Attorney's Office; maintains awareness of new trends and advances in the criminal justice field; conducts research of professional literature relating to legal and public safety issues.
- Develops and creates educational displays; attends local community events to represent the office and the City of Suffolk.
- Conceives, initiates, organizes, and implements community activities and events to promote the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney and the office's programs and services.
- Provides input in the development of short- and long-range plans and projects; assists elected Constitutional Officers in promoting the programs and services provided by their respective offices.
- Researches, composes, designs, creates, and distributes informational guides or brochures for outlining department programs and services, and public safety and crime prevention issues; monitors department website to ensure information is up-to-date and reflective of current legal statutes and office programs.
- Researches and creates verbal and audiovisual presentations safety or crime prevention subjects; arranges and schedules press conferences; notifies media as appropriate regarding specific public safety events or presentations; creates and distributes special events publicity.
- Assists and partners with various local departments and agencies, including the Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire and Rescue, to develop and implement community-oriented safety events and activities; nurtures and maintains partnership with Suffolk Public Schools; coordinates, creates, participates in, and conducts school-related programs, including special assemblies, mock jury trials, and age-appropriate student presentations.
- Researches, compiles, and maintains current listing of organizations, businesses, local agencies, civic leagues, clubs, churches, and other local groups; corresponds and interacts with groups; coordinates interagency/group community improvement activities, including crime prevention initiatives and neighborhood clean-ups; maintains log of all community-oriented events and log of hours devoted to community service for all office personnel.
- Initiates and coordinates community education and advertising campaign for grant programs; contacts business community to seek partnerships; oversees related budget and researches cost and availability of promotional/educational novelty items; obtains bids, orders merchandise, and maintains inventory; designs artwork used on promotional/educational novelty items using various software programs.
- Composes speeches, press releases, and statements for members of office staff; may be required to make presentations before large groups.
- Responds to requests for public safety and crime prevention information from individuals and various groups; designs mobile educational display boards utilized at training events and local community safety events; transports and sets up displays; coordinates and oversees office volunteers for citywide events; assembles information and brochures for distribution at community events.
- Reviews appropriate criminal cases and creates presentations for attorneys to enhance presentation of evidence; may assist attorneys in courtroom setting; provides training to office staff on operation of digital camera, scanning equipment, and developing presentations.
- Maintains library of news articles, clippings, stories and photographs; maintains Community Events office bulletin board; reviews newspapers and collects articles; acts as spokesperson for office to local media.
- Participates as member of crime prevention community groups, including, but not limited to, the R.I.D. (Reduction in Domestic) Violence Task Force and other teams and task force groups, acts as advisor to the Suffolk Citizen' Community Services Committee and assists in event planning, scheduling, and publicity; participates as member of Downtown Business Association.
- May assist the Suffolk Police Department in submitting information for national award consideration.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, or closely related field; supplemented by five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes community relations, desktop publishing, and writing; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Requires a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools and equipment, such as a motor vehicle, personal computer, general office equipment, digital camera, printer, etc. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds), and may at times require working with somewhat lighter weight (20-50 pounds, with assistance with heaver items). Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated office equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
