Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Adult Softball Scorekeeper keeps accurate track of scores, balls, strikes and home runs on the electronic scoreboard and on paper.
 Dates needed: May – August with 1-2 evening trainings in April.
Hours:  Games are Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm - 10pm depending upon registration.
Start:  $9.00-$10.00/hr.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  • Operates the electronic scoreboard with a controller in the score booth
  • Keeps an accurate game report form
  • Watches the games assigned attentively as not to miss any calls/runs/strikes/fouls/etc.
  • Listen, respond and answer questions and concerns of umpires, supervisors and team managers
  • Report scores to the Recreation Coordinator
  • Notify On-Site Coordinator of problems and concerns regarding facilities, equipment, players and/or spectators
  • Get out and set up equipment needed
  • Take down and put away equipment in the appropriate location at the end of each sport session(s)
  • Clean up score booth before departing and check out with the On-Site Lead/Umpires
  • Provide clear communication to and from the Umpires, On-Site Coordinators, the office and participants
  • Assist in management of any problems or emergency situation that may arise while at the program as assigned by the On-Site Coordinator (i.e. safety, first aid, weather cancelations, upset participant, illegal players, etc.)
  • Attends all required meetings and trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience/Education

  • Knowledge of the sport he/she is scoreboard operating for
  • Some background in scoring for the specific sport preferred

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of designated sport and department rules
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices, department policies and procedures

Skill/Ability

  • Must be 15 years of age or older
  • Ability and willingness to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, supervisor(s) and the public, and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to keep accurate records and complete any necessary paperwork
  • Ability to keep accurate time, scoring, calls, etc.
  • Ability to operate a scoreboard
  • Ability to stay calm in a high-pressure situation
  • Ability to keep the environment recreational, rather than competitive

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, talk, hear, read and write. This position frequently requires an employee to walk or bend. He/she may periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. The employee may be asked to clean, pick up, put away, and lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing approximately 10 to 50 pounds.

Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
