Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to assist in developing, organizing, promoting and leading diverse age-appropriate recreational activities across a broad spectrum of programs for ages 18 months to 17 years old.
Position Scope:
This is a support position.
This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent may be required to perform all duties listed and additional, position-specific tasks.
- Assists in planning, developing, and administering activities to include sports, hobbies, drama, team games, arts and crafts, academics, homework help, and other appropriate games and activities for recreational and camp programs.
- Coaches, mentors, and oversees the positive interaction, growth, and development of all program participants and members engaging in various recreation programs.
- Prepares and implements lesson planning for each day of the assigned program.
- Prepares and breaks down the program area for the different activities to ensure safety and security.
- Actively participates in all program activities including special events, games, crafts, and sports.
- Enforces the rules and regulations of the facility and of the given activity.
- Tracks and records the attendance of all participants.
- Conducts assessments and provides feedback to the participant and the parents.
- Maintains adequate inventory of program or recreational activity supplies.
- Administers basic first aid, as necessary.
- Ensures supervisor is updated on all activities and is kept informed of any related issues.
- May perform facility maintenance, i.e., garbage disposal, cleaning up, etc.
- May be responsible for the opening and closing of facilities, in addition to adhering to all checklists, policies and procedures.
- Supervise various recreational areas, including gymnasiums, teen centers, fitness rooms, or other designated spaces.
- Performs any other related job duties as assigned.

- Ability to establish effective working relationships with children, adults, and coworkers.
- Ability to work well with children.
- Ability to be friendly and courteous at all times when working with the children, customers, and staff.
- Ability to be creative with activities for the children.
- Ability to delegate tasks to assistants.
- Ability to take direction from supervisory staff.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule on weekdays, weekday evenings, weekends, and City sponsored events. Will also work various day camp programs including days off from school, winter break, spring break, and summer camps., 90% of summer camp program duration.
- Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children, preferably in a parks and recreation, or similar environment.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First Aid certification within three (3) months of hire.
- Child Care 40-hour training through DCF certification required within sixty (60) days of hire.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
Additional Information:
- There is a one-year probationary period.
- It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
- This position is scheduled to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Salary : $20 - $32
