Assist the Planning and Development Director in meeting the goals and objectives of the department with emphasis in Planning and Development, Code Enforcement and Building Trades.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This position requires both indoor and outdoor activities, including but not limited to: Plan review and on-site inspections of building trade projects for conformance to plans and adopted codes; Enforcement of local ordinances; Preparing documents for meetings, reports and correspondence; Review and process plats, subdivision proposals, rezoning requests and Board of Adjustment variance requests. Communicate information such as local regulations, zoning and floodplain map determinations; Attend City Board meetings as assigned to provide technical assistance. Assist in reviewing plans and specifications for new construction and additions, both residential and commercial.Perform structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and gas inspections.Enforce zoning ordinances.Enforce flood hazard prevention ordinances.Enforce condemnation or rehabilitation determinations for structures found to be substandard.Enforce nuisance and other non-building ordinances.Enforce applicable license and business regulations.Maintain daily record of inspections for project tracking and indicators.Provide staff assistance to, and attend meetings as necessary for, the City Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission and City/County Joint Airport Board.Research property records, tax rolls and legal documents as required. Assist and act in the absence of the Building Official.Investigate citizen's request for service, provide recommendations and perform responses.Issue permits.Assist in the development and update of ordinances.Ensure that changes to city limits, zone boundaries and other departmental maps are made to keep maps current.Assist in the implementation of annexation plans, and annexation proceeding including but not limited to, researching property status and ownerships, providing notices and other mailings.Issue non-compliance notices for code violations.Prepare legal notices and arrange public hearings.Meet with individual citizens and community groups to discuss environmental issues and concerns.Collateral duties as required or assigned.Must be regular in attendance.
