MAJOR FUNCTION
WATER PLANT OPERATOR TRAINEE
This is specialized work in learning the operation and maintenance of water supply wells, water storage facilities, and emergency/stand-by electric power generators. Employees in this class are new to this type of work, and day-to-day tasks are performed under the general supervision of a Chief-Water Well Operations/Maintenance or Licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator (Class B, or higher). It is the responsibility of the individual participant to demonstrate the initiative and desire to progress in completing the requirements to obtain a Class "C" Water Treatment Plant Operator license. After instruction and on-the-job training, the employee will be expected to carry out all routine duties as performed by a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
WATER PLANT OPERATOR I
This is specialized work in the operation and maintenance of water supply wells, water storage facilities, and emergency /stand-by electric power generators. Work is performed with supervision by a Chief - Water Well Operations/Maintenance or a Licensed Water Plant Operator II (Class B) or higher. Work is reviewed through inspections and by observing the effectiveness of water well and tank operations through the review of reports, SCADA information and test results. The employee is expected to understand and put into practice fundamental theories of operation and maintenance of water supply wells, water treatment processes, water storage facility, and emergency/stand-by electric power generation.
WATER PLANT OPERATOR II
This is specialized work in the operation and maintenance of water supply wells, water storage facilities, and emergency/stand-by electric power generators. Work is performed with moderate supervision by a Chief - Water Well Operations/Maintenance or a Licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator III (Class A), or higher. Work is reviewed through inspections and by observing the effectiveness of water well and tank operations through the review of reports, SCADA information and test results. The employee is expected to understand and put into practice fundamental and advanced theories of operation and maintenance of water supply wells, water treatment processes, water storage facility, and emergency/stand-by electric power generation.

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate and one year of experience in a water distribution, wastewater collection, or water or sewerage piping systems.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must possess a valid Class E State driver's license at the time of appointment.
Must progress with training, complete coursework, pass the licensing exam, and obtain and maintain the Class "C" Water Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years from the official hire date, as a condition of continued employment.
Must also progress with training, complete coursework, pass the licensing exam, and obtain and maintain the Class "B" Water Treatment Plant Operator license within three (3) years upon obtaining the Class C Water Treatment Plant Operator license and reclassification as a Water Plant Operator - I, as a condition of continued employment.
