Annual Salary Range:
$74,241 - $98,740

DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and assist with specialized activities, services, and staff relative to providing veteran’s services and outreach within the City of Tempe and to advocate and connect veterans to appropriate resources.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serves as an advocate and resource for veterans and their family members, including but not limited to veterans re-entering the community and/or veterans who may be at risk often due to poverty, unemployment, homelessness, chemical dependency and mental illness.
- Refers veterans needing assistance to appropriate agencies for employment, housing assistance, legal assistance and other supportive services.
- Participates in the evaluation of veterans’ programs specific to serving Tempe residents; provides recommendations for improving city-wide veteran’s programs, services and outreach.
- Develop, plan, coordinate and staff veterans’ community special events and workshops.
- Serves as the staff liaison to the City of Tempe Veterans Commission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Requires three (3) years of experience in the implementation and coordination of programs, support, outreach, and/or case management specific to veterans and their families.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Requires equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, social work, sociology, psychology, education, or degree related to the core functions of this position.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
