What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Head Lifeguard position at City of The Colony?
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Head Guard provides excellent customer service to guests of the Aquatic Park. The Head Guard supervises the facility safety and the incident prevention services for both public and staff. The Head Guard is responsible for facility cleanliness and appearance. Substitutes as Lifeguard when needed.
• Provides excellent customer service by responding promptly to guest requests and needs.
• Responsible for the incident prevention services of Lifeguard Staff by directly supervising their techniques, abilities and current status.
• Performs daily monitoring of facility equipment and chemical testing. Follows through with accurate record keeping and maintenance requests when needed.
• Administers emergency care when needed.
• Oversees daily Guard rotation, breaks and weekly schedule; assigns cleaning responsibility to Lifeguards when they are not guarding.
• Maintains appearance of park grounds, pools, decks, pavilions, offices and restrooms. Performs cleaning duties as needed.
• Displays sound judgment and makes on the spot, quick decisions to insure safety of all users of the pool areas.
• Reports all disciplinary problems to Manager.
• Informs Manager when supplies are needed.
• Handles difficult guest situations such as discipline problems. Makes decisions on refusal of patrons with health problems, intoxication and “control substances”.
• Sets a positive example for the benefit of both our guest populations and our staff.
• Substitutes for Lifeguard when needed.
• Inventories and inspects emergency equipment and facility supplies.
• Communicate effectively and courteously with guests, venders, customers, and staff in writing, via the Internet, & by phone.
• Ability to cope with large crowds and noise levels.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures.
• Ability to work extended days or flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to push, pull, lift, drag, or carry up to 50 pounds of supplies or equipment.
• May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.
Organizational abilities in scheduling staff hours and work duties. Must be able to maintain an alert staff that can supervise large groups, including children, both visually and audibly to insure safety, facility rules and health standards. Strong swimming abilities and superior rescue technique (example - tread 2 minutes with 10 lb weight, swim 25 yards in 18 seconds or less. Ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs. Must set positive leadership role, display sound judgment, and ability to be flexible. Able to make on the spot, quick decisions to insure safety of all users of the pool areas.Minimum 1-year experience Lifeguarding a public swim facility. Maintain current American Red Cross certification in First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard Emergency Medical Technician and Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must pass a criminal background check.
