What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Trainer position at City of Thornton?
Under general supervision, provides personal training sessions at a City recreation facility.
DAYS/HOURS:
5 days / 3 hours per day(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Trains clientele on weight training, cardiovascular, nutrition, swimming, running, or triathlons.
Prepares a personalized training regimen specific to the individual's needs and fitness level.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Communicates and enforces facility and class policies and procedures. Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions and resolve problems.
Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or GED, plus one year of fitness or personal training experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certificates, or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire. Fitness certification from American Council of Exercise (ACE), International Sports and Science Association (ISSA), or Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or equivalent fitness certification.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of athletic training, including anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and weight training injury treatment.
Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities.
Skill in designing personalized fitness plans.
Skill in teaching the proper use of a variety of fitness equipment.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with the public.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity and perform light lifting. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
