The City of Tigard is currently seeking a qualified Deputy City Recorder to join the Central Services team. In this position, you will participate in the development of the City Council agendas which will include working with staff to coordinate their items for Council. In addition, you will be responsible for coordinating Council meetings and assisting with the electronic agenda management system as well as responding to questions on Council packets and processing municipal code updates. You will also be assisting with records management and municipal elections and serve as a backup for the City Recorder and Records Management Specialist. In this position, you will be taking and transcribing Council meeting minutes.
The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented as well as possess strong interpersonal skills. In addition, the individual in this position will have attention to detail and must possess strong organizational skills. The candidate in this position will also understand the importance of government transparency and public meeting and public records laws.
- Prepares and distributes City Council meeting agendas and agenda packets; sends out public notices for posting according to State laws; prepares Council chambers for meetings.
- Takes and prepares City Council meeting and Executive Session minutes.
- Prepares Council packets and approved resolutions, ordinances, and meeting minutes for archiving.
- Assists posting electronic Council agendas, staff reports, and other official records on the City website.
- Researches and responds to records requests from the public and city staff; obtains records from various on-site and off-site locations.
- Assists the city recorder with city candidate and measure election responsibilities.
- Equivalent to graduation from twelfth (12th) grade; AND
- Four (4) years of experience administrative municipal government, preferably with a City Recorder's Office or related organization that staffs a government body and holds elections.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving history.
- Possession of or ability to obtain designation as a Notary Public in the State of Oregon at time of appointment.
- Certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk is desirable. (The Deputy City Recorder is expected to obtain their CMC (Certified Municipal Clerk) within 3 years of hire
Union Representation: Not applicable for this position.
Schedule: Four 10 hour days (Monday-Thursday) with some evening work required up to 2-3 times a month. General Schedule is 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. This position is eligible to work remote up to two days per week.
