What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Operator I position at City of Tipp City?
The City of Tipp City is accepting applications for two (2) Utility Operator I positions in our Water Distribution/Wastewater Collection department.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Foreman, installs, inspects and repairs the City’s water and wastewater systems; performs routine maintenance; performs building a maintenance; operates vehicles and equipment to perform maintenance and repairs to city’s water systems and treatment facilities. The incumbent is responsible for the accuracy of their work product involving execution of various procedures and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent education. Knowledge of water and sewer related systems is a plus.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain OEPA Class I Water Distribution license or possess and maintain OEPA Class I Water Treatment license or possess and maintain OEPA Class I Wastewater Collection license; valid State of Ohio Class B, with tanker endorsement, commercial driver’s license; valid State of Ohio Driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
Motor vehicle, lab equipment, backhoe, front-end loader, jet rodder, jackhammers, dump trucks, pick-up trucks, trash pumps, hydro excavator, computer, copier, fax, telephone, computer software (e.g. Microsoft, Iworq, etc.) and other office equipment; and other hand and power tools.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered heavy work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
1. Installs, maintains and repairs water and sewer systems (e.g. digs holes, trenches, backfills, connects water lines to mains, repairs hydrants, tests valves, inspects lines for leaks/breaks, flushes hydrants, etc.); responds to trouble calls and perform emergency repairs; line locating of water/sewer mains.
2. Operates equipment utilized in the construction, repair and maintenance or water/wastewater lines (e.g. drives service trucks, operates jackhammer, power saws, drills, backhoes, dump truck, pumps, etc.)
3. Draws treatment samples; performs basic chemical tests (e.g. pH, alkalinity, hardness, turbity, etc.); maintains records of sample data; logs data; prepares summaries.
4. Performs plumbing repairs on City facilities; performs basic maintenance on City facilities.
5. This position shall be part of the Water Distribution Plant on-call rotation schedule, with work at times requiring evenings, weekends, and holidays.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*indicates developed after employment)
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures; *City/department goals and objectives; *City/department policies and procedures; *workplace safety practices and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; water treatment plant operating procedures; water treatment regulations; mechanical maintenance; water distribution principles and practices; proper lifting techniques; English grammar and spelling.
Skill in: heavy equipment operation; operation of water testing instruments and/or materials; use of mechanic's tools and equipment; use of modern office equipment.
Pay Range: $24.09-$30.39 per hour
If applicant does not have a Water or Sewer Certification then the applicant would be a Maintenance Specialist II with a pay range of $23.00-$29.01
