What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager Water Distribution position at City of Topeka?
The City of Topekas Utilities Department is seeking a qualified individual to serve as its Manager of Water Distribution. This position is responsible for directing and coordinating all operations of the Water Distribution division, ensuring proper preventative maintenance is performed on a wide variety of assets while balancing reactive maintenance criticality in a cost-effective manner.
What you'll do:
- Supervise and direct the maintenance of valves, mains and hydrants and other assets of the Distribution System while ensuring proper data collection.
- Supervise daily duties of assigned staff and perform supervisory duties such as the preparation of annual employee evaluations, resolving complaints and conflicts, administering discipline, receiving and processing grievances, interviewing and hiring, etc.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Water Service budget.
- Monitor City Works Maintenance Management System records of work performed and scheduled; respond to and resolve public inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate:
- Possesses thorough knowledge of water distribution processes, design, construction, operations and maintenance as well as thorough knowledge of water quality, safety, and hazardous chemicals.
- Is an effective communicator with excellent presentation skills.
- Can react quickly and appropriately to situations that require immediate attention and a strategic response.
- Is a proven leader.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in industrial management, public administration, engineering or a related field; a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the minimum qualifications is acceptable. Five years supervisory experience in the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system. Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topekas insurance carrier and possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
Annual salary: $95,000 - $102,000, depending on qualifications
