The DivisionThe Communications Center is under the Support Services Division, and is responsible for providing communications services to the Police and Fire Departments, including answering 911 and non-emergency telephone calls, dispatching public safety resources, and providing emergency medical dispatch services and 911 education to the public. The Communications Center has a variety of positions which all work together to help the citizens of Torrance.
The PositionThe
Public Safety Communications Supervisor
reports directly to the Administrative Services Manager, and is responsible for day-to-day operations and technical support for the public safety dispatching services, emergency medical dispatching services, 911 operations, and the training function.

xperience & EducationAny combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities is :
Graduation from high school or GED and three (3) years experience in emergency radio dispatching. One (1) year of supervisory or lead work experience is preferred. Experience with CAD is preferred.
License and / or Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.Must obtain and maintain a valid California Public Safety Dispatcher POST and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within one (1) year of hire.Ideal Candidate
In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will have :
Possesses a high degree of understanding public safety;Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices;Experience with automation and communication and record management systems, including knowledge of Federal regulations related to public safety communications and criminal history record-keeping;Knowledge of public safety communications principles and practices, including but not limited to modern equipment, techniques, and methods of radio communication;Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;Strong skills in team-building, coaching, mentoring staff members; andAbility to develop and maintain positive working relationships with management, coworkers, and the public.
