The Mission of Torrance Transit System is to provide safe, reliable, inexpensive and courteous transportation to our customers - the people who live, work and do business in the City of Torrance and the region.
The Agency
The provides dedicated service to the South Bay Community of Los Angeles County. With an annual budget of 35 million dollars, Torrance Transit has a staff of approximately 196 employees, operates a fleet of 63 alternative fueled CNG buses and provides public transportation service to almost two million riders on an annual basis. Torrance Transit was originally established in 1940 and began providing service between Torrance and downtown Los Angeles. Today, Torrance Transit operates 12 fixed-routes which extend to many areas outside of the City of Torrance, including neighboring cities, regional connection hubs, and Metro rail stations.
The Position
As part of Torrance Transit's management team, the Transit Operations Manager will enhance the Operations Division by maximizing efficiency and effectiveness to the overall day-to-day operation of the Transit Department; provide direction, effective communication and support to ensure safe, reliable and customer-focused transit services; and support collaborative capital projects, such as the future Torrance Transit Park and Ride Regional Terminal and Service Expansion. This key position will provide leadership and maintain positive employee relations. The incumbent to this position will possess the skills to successfully communicate with transit staff and management, representatives from other departments, transportation and other government officials, business representatives and the general public.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Candidate Profile
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or related field; four years of progressively responsible professional experience which includes development, interpretation and implementation of administrative rules and regulations affecting departmental operations and personnel matters, oversight of procedures and systems; and at least one of the four years of experience must be in a lead or supervisory capacity. Specific and substantial experience, in addition to the four (4) years required, which prepares one to perform the job duties may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Experience in a public transit agency is preferred. A valid Class C California driver's license is required upon hire.
The ideal candidate will possess the following professional attributes :
Possession of a valid class B California driver's license is desirable.
