The City of Trenton is accepting applications for a Public Works Part-Time Laborer. Pay range is $17.51 to $23.43 per hour based on experience and qualifications. This is an Unclassified, Non-Exempt Part-Time position with a six (6) month probationary period.
General Description:
Under the general direction of the Public Works Foreman, the Part-Time Laborer is a semi-skilled position responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks. Work includes but is not limited to general building and grounds care and maintenance, all facets of safe and efficient mowing, trimming, weed eating, watering, planting and mulching of trees, shrubs and flowers.
Job Duties:
· Participates primarily with the mowing crew. This includes general grounds care, mowing, trimming, edging, trash removal, mulching and weed eating City properties and in the Right-of-Way.
· Responsible for watering, planting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, weeding and maintaining all City building flower beds and downtown plants and planters.
· Assists with the planting, mulching and pruning of City trees.
· Operation of various types of equipment: lawnmowers, weed eaters, blowers, hand tools, leaf vac, and various other departmental equipment.
· Assists with daily park checks to include cleaning of walking paths, and restrooms facilities. Emptying of garbage cans and graffiti removal. Will report needed repairs to supervisor.
· Assists with fall leaf removal and holiday decorating.
· Participates in snow removal of city parking lots and walkways.
· Assist with the setup of signage and maintaining a safe work zone on any type of street within the municipality.
· Assists with the maintenance and repair of City owned buildings.
· May be assigned to any division within the Public Works Department as a substitute for individuals on vacation, sick leave, etc., or during heavy workload periods.
· Participates in and assists with various city related events as needed.
· Maintains city issued vehicle(s) and equipment.
· Performs related work as required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
· Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.
· Knowledge of various hand tools and the ability to operate simple machinery and equipment.
· Ability to perform manual labor and to work in inclement weather.
· Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of assigned equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Possession of a valid driver’s license.
· Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Preferred Qualifications:
· Work Zone Flagging Safety Training.
· Work Zone Construction Safety Training.
