SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Positions assigned to this classification are primarily responsible for the development and management of IT products, aligning product strategy with business goals and customer needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Position Specific Summary
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program Manager position at the City of Tucson’s Information Technology Department (ITD) is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of various technology initiatives. This role plays a key part in formulating IT strategies, establishing standards, and ensuring the effective integration of technology solutions to optimize business operations and achieve organizational objectives.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Information Technology Manager. This position exercises supervision over information technology personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establishes best practices for project management and deployment to make recommendations on standards and guidelines. Monitors compliance with processes and policies to mitigate risk and ensure alignment with the City’s risk tolerance. Ensures all programs adhere to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards, identifying and managing potential risks.
  • Leads adoption and implementation strategies for new technologies. Engages stakeholders to drive the integration of technology solutions, making recommendations based on organizational needs. Develops and executes strategic plans through roadmaps and frameworks to ensure alignment with City goals.
  • Oversees and maintains IT applications, systems, and tools. Conducts performance reviews, updates, and manages integrations to enhance efficiency. Collaborates with IT teams to ensure seamless technological implementations. Manages the IT portfolio and oversees high-priority products and solutions.
  • Develops systems to monitor program performance, ensuring compliance and effectiveness. Utilizes data-driven metrics to assess the impact of technology initiatives. Reports progress and challenges to senior management and implements necessary changes to address risks or inefficiencies.
  • Provides supervision, support, and training to IT personnel. Manages team assignments, sets goals, monitors progress, and ensures staff understand their roles and responsibilities. Reviews timecards and addresses employee concerns when needed.
  • Designs and implements training programs to promote continuous learning and professional development within the team. Encourages innovation and enhances staff capabilities to contribute to various IT projects. Leads and directs the work of team members on IT-sponsored projects.
  • Establishes partnerships with industry experts, vendors, and external stakeholders. Represents the City in technology-related forums and conferences to leverage external expertise for innovative IT solutions.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree
Work Experience:
Three (3) years of directly related experience
License:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education related to Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

Experience in
Governance of AI or similar autonomous / advanced solutions within public or private sectors.
Machine learning, natural language processing, and AI framework development.
Analyzing complex data and translate it into actionable strategies.
Developing guidelines that ensure AI use aligns with public values and regulations.
Leading innovative projects and initiatives, with a keen interest in exploring new technologies and AI applications for public benefit.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full Hourly Range: $35.37 - 61.01 USD
