Position Specific Summary
The Lead Traffic Control Technician position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility leads and performs design, installation, repair and maintenance of roadway markings.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Engineering Technician Supervisor. This position leads and instructs the daily operational work of traffic maintenance personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Designs, replaces, and removes the painting of street lines and markings.
- Prepares vehicles and materials for jobsites. Ensures worksites are barricaded properly and safely. Reviews assignments, marking layouts of roadways for painting, painting lines, turn lane arrows, crosswalks and curbs. Applies reflective markers and grinding area for removal of paint or markings. Performs minor repairs on mechanical equipment used for striping. Contacts vendors, suppliers, and specialty stores for additional materials.
- Reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments. Contributes to other employees' performance evaluations. Assists with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff.
- Maintains daily activity records by logging job assignments, materials used, mileage and travel times, and by entering data into the computer. Reviews data for accuracy. Runs daily and monthly reports for leadership review.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday as early as 2:00 AM. May be required to work on-call shifts to include nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Six (6) months post high schoolWork Experience: Two (2) years of directly related experience

- 50 lb. Lift Test
- Basic Physical
- CDL Physical
- NIDA drug test
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B.
The following certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position:
- Forklift operator certification
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs and Pavement Markings Technician I Certification
- IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification
