ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary:
The Water Quality Analyst position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department, within the Water Quality & Pressure Concerns Unit, responds to customer water quality and pressure concerns by telephone, email and on-site field investigations throughout the Tucson water service area. This position collects, and reviews water sample results for quality control, ensuring compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) standards and regulations.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Answers, researches, and responds to technical water quality and pressure inquiries from customers via telephone, email, and site visits, utilizing internal communication tools such as email, Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and the Tucson Water website Outages Map. Educates customers about different water service area pressures, quality concerns, and trouble-shooting ideas to help assist them in making informed decisions. Provides various water quality data and reports, routed inquiries to appropriate divisions, departments, utilities, or outside agencies.
  • Documents customer inquiries, ensuring details and data are entered accurately into the CMMS. Researches duplicate calls, queries specific parameters, and initiates, creates, and completes work orders. Retrieves and analyzes various water quality data regarding specific parameters, creates reports and provides relevant information to customers.
  • Coordinates and schedules customer home visits to investigate water pressure and quality issues, utilizing gauges and portable measuring devices, and tools. Works directly with customers during site visits and communicates investigation results. Collects potable water samples in compliance with regulations and standards and delivers samples to the Tucson Water Quality Lab for analysis. Reviews paperwork for accuracy and ensures compliance with policies and procedures, completing and creating follow-up work orders for other divisions in the CMMS.
  • Calibrates instruments and maintains hand tools, ensuring proper functionality. Organizes assigned city vehicles and follows all office and field safety protocols.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This position is a primary driver and will be expected to operate a city vehicle. Must have open availability. Must be able to work in various working/climate conditions. Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree
Experience
One (1) year of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

1. Demonstrated intermediate experience with GIS Mapping, GeoWorx, Computer Maintenance Management System and billing software.
2. Demonstrated intermediate experience using Microsoft Office suite of programs.
3. Demonstrated intermediate experience with keyboard and typing.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of water distribution systems.
5. Bilingual in English/Spanish.

8. Do you possess a valid and unrestricted driver’s license? Do you have at least two (2) years of driving experience? Have you had a DUI in the past two (2) years?

PLEASE NOTE: Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Distribution Grade 1, and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Treatment Grade 1 Certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire, and must be maintained throughout employment of this position.

Applicants with water certifications from other states will be accepted only if the certification is eligible for reciprocity, however, applicants are required to check with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) regarding reciprocity/requirements.
