RECREATION LEADER 1
The Tukwila Community Center is looking to hire multiple Recreation Leaders to work with our Youth & Teen Summer programs! This is a great opportunity to serve as a positive role model and make a difference in your community!
As a Recreation Leader 1 you will assist and support our Summer Programming activities. You will leave at the end of the summer having gained skills in program development and you will have the opportunity to create a safe, welcoming, fun environment for our community!
Note: These are non-benefited positions working up to 40 hours per week. All positions are limited duration, part-time and will not exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month period.

Recreation Leader 1 candidates can choose between four summer programs:
1) Camp Tukwilly - you will oversee the daily operations and activities, which includes leading organized games, arts & crafts, special events, field trips and other camp activities. Provides supervision, direction and support for camp staff. Must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (actual schedule to be determined) and be able to work the duration of the program through September 1st. These positions will have a set work schedule with shifts starting at 7:15 a.m.
2) TeenVenture Camp - you will be responsible for leading group activities for middle school aged children. You will oversee the daily operations and activities, which includes leading organized games, arts & crafts, special events, field trips and other camp activities. Provides supervision, direction and support for camp staff. Must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (actual schedule to be determined, with shifts starting as early as 7:15 a.m.) and be able to work the duration of the program through September 1st. These positions will have a set schedule.
Job Duties:
- Provide a high level of customer service.
- Perform light custodial duties during programs.
- Maintain a safe environment for all participants and visitors.
- Provide direction and support for program participants.
- Assist with supervision to provide fun activities while maintaining a safe and structured environment for program participants.
- Develop positive, supportive relationships with participants, parents, the public and other department staff.
- Address minor behavioral concerns with participants and communicates these concerns with the lead camp staff.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner while representing the City and be involved and engaged in programs & activities with all participants.
- Be a team player to assist other staff and perform other duties as assigned.
(A) Friendly, positive and supportive customer service skills to respond to public inquiries regarding programs and activities;
(B) Physical ability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position;
(C) Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
(D) Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, and the general public;
(E) Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
(A) Minimum of 16 years old;
(B) Currently enrolled in High School, and satisfactory progress while enrolled is required, or possess a High School Diploma or GED;
(C) Strong interest and ability to lead activities in art, sports and games for youth;
(D) Previous knowledge and experience with youth programs curriculum, policies and procedures desired.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License/ID.
Must be physically capable of assisting and participating in physical activities.
Maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
