Position Information

Essential Functions
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of flow, level, and pressure equipment.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance on a variety of electronic control instruments used to operate electrical mechanical equipment.
- Assist with electronic testing.
- Use of computers for logging work completed, record keeping equipment data retrieval using computer maintenance management system.
- Ensure all safety regulations are followed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic repair and maintenance methods, procedures, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Safe work practices under hazardous conditions.
Ability to:
- Perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks.
- Work under routine and emergency conditions, sometimes in severe weather.
- Install, repair, remove and process equipment as needed.
- Work efficiently and safely with others.
- Understand and follow instructions and directions.
- Perform a wide variety of tasks as required.
- Respond appropriately to public inquiries and complaints in a tactful, courteous manner.
Experience and Education
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Six (6) months of maintenance experience working with electronic equipment such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, level controls, and analyzers.
High School diploma or GED certificate. Must provide a copy of High School Diploma or GED Certificate at time of application. A copy of a College Degree from an accredited and regionally accepted institution will be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma.
1 year of school or technical class work in the electronics field is desirable.
SELECTION PROCESS:

Applications will be rejected if they are incomplete or the required documentation is not attached.
3. Applications will be reviewed for possession of the minimum qualifications. In the event that a large number of applicants possess the minimum qualifications, applicants who appear to be the most qualified based on their breadth and recency of experience will be invited to compete in the testing process.4. Candidates invited to compete in the testing process may be required to take a written examination, which is graded on a pass/fail basis. Only those applicants who pass the written examination will advance to the oral examination. The oral examination is tentatively scheduled the week of March 10, 2025.
5. Candidates who participate in the oral examination and receive a score of 70% or more will be placed on an eligibility list. Ranking on the eligibility list is based solely on the results of the oral exam.
6. Completion of a practical exercise may be conducted in order to further evaluate skills relating to essential job functions.
7. Top candidates from the eligibility list will be referred to the Municipal Services Director for final appointment consideration.
8. Final appointment will be contingent upon passing the following: reference review, medical examination which includes a drug/alcohol screening, hearing exam and vision exam
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE SYSTEM
The City of Turlock has adopted a veteran's preference system (effective January 1, 2002). The percentage score achieved through an entrance (non-promotional) examination which ranks applicants on an eligibility list shall be adjusted to provide: (a) one (1) percentage point added to the final test score for each six (6) months of active service during a time of armed conflict, up to a maximum of five (5) points, and (b) five (5) percentage points added to the final test score for veterans who are disabled as a result of active military service during a time of armed conflict, regardless of length of service. To receive preference points, applicants must provide supporting documentation and proof of honorable discharge. In no event shall an applicant receive more than a five (5) point adjustment. This request should be made in section #12 of the employment application form.A copy of your DD214 must be attached for this request to be considered.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENING
The incumbent will be required to take a medical examination including a drug/alcohol screening and be fingerprinted.

BENEFITS
Sick Leave: The City of Turlock amended a Paid Sick Leave Policy on December 23, 2023. An employee who, on or after July 1, 2015, works for 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment is entitled to paid sick leave. Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of one hour per every 30 hours worked. Accrual shall begin on the first day of employment or July 1, 2015, whichever is later. Paid sick leave shall carry over to the following year of employment and is capped at 80 hours or ten days.
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $16.50 - $23.00 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: Hours and days may vary. This position shall not exceed twenty (20) hours per week or 960 hours per fiscal year.
