What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Treatment Plant Operator (Water Plant) position at City of Tyler?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise plant personnel
- Monitor, trend and determine best course of actions as they relate to changing water quality conditions
- Trend chemical use and order chemicals as needed
- Submit all internal and external reports as needed on a daily, weekly, monthly basis
- Must have proper knowledge of water treatment processes and techniques
- Evaluate employee performance by observation, and discussions with employee and or employee’s immediate supervisor
- Manage employees licensing requirements are met by prioritizing employee’s attendance in training classes and by renewing their licenses
- Conduct monthly safety meetings
- Meet, plan, and discuss plant maintenance issues with Plant Operator III. Formulate specific plans to resolve said maintenance issues
- Other duties as assigned
- Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of water treatment techniques, ability to assess water quality conditions and determine best course of action to take in various water quality conditions
- Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours, stand for up to 4 hours, lift, push, pull or carry up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to operate a personal computer and be familiar with entire Microsoft Office suite of programs and how to use them.
- Must be able to work indoors or outdoors for long periods of time in various weather conditions that include weather extremes.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in: Engineering, Science, Management, or a related field desired but, not required.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an associate degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a bachelor’s degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
