We are seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Streets Maintenance Worker. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the streets, parks, and other public facilities in our city. As a Streets Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks and operating light to heavy-duty equipment for the construction, repair, and upkeep of city infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of light to heavy-duty equipment, including street sweepers, backhoes, heavy rollers, dump trucks, water trucks, loaders, motor graders, herbicide trucks, tractor shredders, and various mowing equipment.
- Perform manual labor tasks related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets, parks, and other facilities.
- Follow established procedures and safety guidelines when operating equipment and performing tasks.
- Assist in street cleaning, mowing, trimming, and other maintenance activities as directed.
- Maintain and service equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Be available for rotating 24-hour, 7-day per week standby duty as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- License: Must possess a valid Class “C” Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Training: On-the-job training in heavy equipment operation.
- Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Requirements:
- Licensing: If not currently held, must obtain required licenses and certifications within one year of hire from the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Health for pest, weed, and vector control.
- Work Hours: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during spring, fall, and winter; 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the summer. The work schedule is subject to change based on the department's needs. Evening, weekend, and overtime work will be required as needed.
