Under immediate supervision, Recreation Leaders perform a variety of clerical and customer service duties in support of division programs and facility operations, including opening and closing City facilities, cashiering, data entry, and recordkeeping; moves and arranges furniture and equipment to set up for classes, activities, and functions; prepares parks and provides staff support for scheduled activities, events, and general use; interacts with and provides basic information and assistance to the public; and performs related work as required.Â
CURRENT VACANCY
The Recreation and Community Services Division currently has multiple vacancies. The duties for staff may include but will not be limited to youth and senior programs, facility reservation monitoring, customer service, and special events.

This position is limited to 960 hours per Fiscal Year. Eligibility lists are in effect for one year. During the life of this eligibility list, if any other vacancies come up, this list may be used to fill those vacancies.Â
REPORTING SCHEDULE
Reporting schedule may vary depending on the needs of the Division and the City. Incumbents may be required to work in the evenings, on weekends, and during the holidays. All Recreation and Community Services Division staff are required to work on July 4th and Thanksgiving morning each year.

Â When assigned to parks or outdoor facilities, must possess mobility to work in changing site conditions; possess the strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; to reach, twist, turn, kneel, and bend; and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 20 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees also work in parks and outdoor facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Â Â

- Provides customer service and information about division programs, services, activities, and events to the public.
- Opens, sets up, takes down, and closes facilities for classes, public and private rentals, meetings, and special events; arranges furniture and equipment and ensures set up is in accordance with customer needs and requests.
- Welcomes patrons, visitors, and the community to City parks and facilities; conducts park and/or facility tours; provides information related to City parks, facilities, programs, services, and activities.Â
- Assists groups using parks and facilities as requested; explains and enforces park and facility use policies, rules, and regulations.
- Monitors the proper and safe use of program facilities by the general public and ensures adherence to rules and policies.
- Provides staff support at special events, classes, and festivals.
- Registers participants for programs, classes, and special events; receives program and reservation fees and requests and issues receipts.Â
- Removes trash in and around parks and buildings; performs cleaning and custodial duties of facility rooms, park shelters, tables, floors, and playground equipment.
- Assists with leading and/or supervising established programs or recreational activities for children and adults including indoor/outdoor games, sports, arts and crafts, special events, and other related activities, as directed.
- Follows maintenance schedule and performs cleaning, preventative maintenance, and maintenance and adjustments on equipment, facilities, and buildings, including replacing light bulbs and cleaning restrooms and furniture.Â
- Identifies and reports building maintenance needs to appropriate staff.
- Maintains accurate schedule and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
- Observes and complies with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.Â

- Â Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Â
- One (1) year of clerical, customer service, or custodial/janitorial experience involving public contact.Â
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.Â
- Possession of, or successful acquisition within six (6) months from appointment, valid certifications in First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to be maintained throughout employment.Â
- Recreation, leisure, and community programs, services, and activities.Â
- Operations, services, and activities of the division.Â
- Care and proper use of recreational facilities, equipment, and supplies.Â
- Methods and techniques of maintaining the safety of parks, community centers, and recreational areas.Â
- Basic safety precautions and procedures related to park and recreation program area(s) and facilities.
- Basic cash handling techniques.Â
- Basic mathematics.Â
- Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools, and equipment.
- Principles and procedures of recordkeeping.Â
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and procedures relevant to assigned area of responsibility.Â
- City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.Â
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
