What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapeutic Recreation Camp Director position at City of Upper Arlington?
The City of Upper Arlington operates the Therapeutic Recreation Camp program, a custodial Summer Day Camp program for ages 7-12. Under supervision of the Recreation Manager, the purpose of this position is to plan, lead, and manage Therapeutic Recreation Camp. Responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and monitoring a consistent behavior management program for participants in camp. Develop and implement effective behavioral management plans for participants, as well as adaptive activity programming. This individual will model, coach and train staff on positive behavior management strategies. Responsible also for planning and implementing adaptive recreation programs employing a balance of specialized and inclusive experiences both with and without the traditional camp schedule/campers. This is a seasonal position.
- Establish goals and objectives of program with input by supervisors.
- Evaluate camp site for safety, efficiency and positive behavior management strategies.
- Review and understand all documentation related to individual student behavior; ensure implementation as appropriate.
- Supervise participants, staff and volunteers.
- Observe, monitor, report and document various behaviors of individual participants or groups of participants.
- Assist in implementation of a behavior prevention/intervention/modification program for individual participants or groups of participants.
- Train/coach staff members regarding behavior management; model appropriate strategies.
- Assist in developing CPI plan for individual participants.
- Instruct individual participants or groups of participants in a variety of settings.
- Assists staff in the design, implementation and modification of curriculum so as to enhance the success of participant engagement.
- Maintains licenses and certifications as required, if any.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Performs other duties as required.
- At least two years of college education with emphasis in special education, recreational therapy/therapeutic recreation, psychology or social work. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Candidates with any combination of education, training and experience equivalent will be considered. Professional assault crisis training(ProACT or CPI) is highly desirable; or any combination of training, education or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- CPR certification; First Aid certification - Training may be provided for candidates who are not currently certified.
- Valid state of Ohio driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
- The City of Upper Arlington will determine the hourly rate for Camp Directors annually.
- This is a 40-hour, 8 week position with a maximum of five unpaid vacation days.
- All Camp Directors must complete an annual drug and background screening.
