What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapeutic Recreation Camp Leader position at City of Upper Arlington?
The City of Upper Arlington operates a Therapeutic Recreation Day Camp program, which is an adaptive camp program for youth ages 7-13. Under supervision of the Recreation Manager and the Therapeutic Rec Camp Director, this position will support the daily activities of the day camp along with our other camp staff. As needed, TR Camp Leaders also help support effective behavioral management plans and adaptive activity programming for participants. This position works closely with the TR summer day camp director and this is a seasonal position.
- Supervise and support camp participants for a safe and enjoyable camp experience.
- Help instruct individual participants or groups of participants in a variety of settings and activities.
- Evaluate camp site for safety, ensure a safe environment for all at the camp site as well as during all off-site activities.
- Review and understand all documentation related to individual camper needs and supports.
- Assist Camp Director and camp team with the implementation of behavior management techniques/strategies for those participants requiring additional supports.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Performs other duties as required.
- At least two years of college education with emphasis in special education, intervention specialist, recreational therapy, other therapy majors such as PT/OT/SLP, psychology, or social work.
- Candidates with any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent will be considered.
- CPR certification; First Aid certification - Training may be provided to hired candidates who are not currently certified.
- Valid state of Ohio driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- The City of Upper Arlington will determine the hourly rate for Camp Leaders annually.
- This is a 30-40-hour, 8 week position with a maximum of five unpaid vacation days.
- All Camp Leaders must complete an annual drug and background screening.
