The City is currently recruiting part-time* LABORERS in the Public Works Department. 

Immediate vacancies are in the Parks Division of the Public Works Maintenance Division. Laborers perform a variety of maintenance tasks and may be assigned to work in the following operational areas: Parks, Streets, Facilities, Field Utilities or Garage Maintenance operations or the Central Warehouse. While the current vacancies exist in the Parks Division, this recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill future Laborer vacancies throughout other divisions within Public Works. 

All positions require candidates to be able to work with others, as well as independently, on assigned tasks and to be flexible in performing multiple tasks throughout the day. Sample job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Cleaning buildings and parks 
• Operating weed-eaters, lawnmowers and other power tools 
• Manual tasks such as loading and unloading materials and equipment, digging and covering holes and trenches 
• Cleaning and servicing equipment 
• Maintaining and repairing sewer and water lines, streets and storm drains
• Assisting skilled workers in general maintenance operations
• Performing warehouse and courier duties and making daily deliveries to City facilities

Salary Information: $20.57-$25.00/hour

*Laborer is a part-time position and is paid an hourly rate. Part-time positions can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month.  Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits, and do not accrue leave time with the exception of State-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year). Promotional opportunities for full-time positions will take place as a separate recruitment.Education, Experience and License/Certification Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:

Education:    High school diploma or GED is highly desirable.

Experience:   Experience in landscape or construction maintenance is highly desirable.

License:    Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. 

Other:  Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire in order to drive a vehicle for City business and operate power tools.This recruitment is currently open and continuous but may close without further notice at any time.
