The position of Building Inspector is an open position in the City of Vermilion. The Building Inspector performs skilled/specialized duties related to residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures in the process of construction, alteration, or repair to ensure compliance with applicable codes, approved plans, and specifications.
The Building Inspector also serves as the Zoning Inspector and is responsible for enforcing the City’s Zoning Codes.
The Building Inspector is responsible for the following:
- Inspects residential and commercial buildings for compliance with adopted codes
- Addresses questions relating to compliance with building codes, both over the phone and in person
- Performs data entry of inspection results, when necessary
- Research code related questions and provides guidance/assistance regarding applicable codes.
- Plans out daily inspections efficiently to ensure department is effectively and efficiently serving clients
- Attends monthly Boards and Commissions meetings as needed.
Qualifications:
- State Certification as a residential building inspector (Mandatory)
- State certification as a commercial inspector
- Knowledge of the Ohio Building Code and Residential Code of Ohio
- Basic understanding of municipal planning and zoning codes
- Basic computer skills
- Iworq knowledge helpful
Pay is based on qualifications.
