Under close supervision operates bus to transport student passengers to and from their destination in a safe, courteous and timely manner; and performs related duties as assignedThe following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B or C, with passenger endorsement. IRCSD bus driver certificate of completion and current annual renewal.
CPR and First Aid certifications within one year of hire.
- Pre-inspects bus and reports safety or maintenance problems.
- Pick-ups and discharges children at scheduled destinations.
- Assists children in crossing the street when necessary, both in loading and unloading.
- Observes safe operating practices at all times; reports mechanical defects, accidents, road hazards, and personal or passenger injuries to supervisors.
- Maintains coach cleanliness.
- Monitors the behavior and welfare of students on the bus; maintains order, handles disorderly or unruly passengers, and assists in loading and unloading disabled passengers.
- May operate chair lift for disabled passengers.
- Maintains bus cleanliness.
- Assists and supports City staff or contract instructors in the summer camp program and other recreation activities.
- Assists in planning organized activities for children, may lead and oversee planned activities.
- May assist with concession operations.
- Good knowledge of bus operations, traffic laws and occupational hazards and safety practices applicable to passenger transportation.
- Some knowledge of departmental policies and City geography.
- Some knowledge of customer service/public relations practices and procedures.
- Some knowledge of working with disabled children.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Exposure to potential physical harm, infectious disease, and hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry heavy or bulky items weighing as much as 80-100 lbs.
- Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices.
