What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT RECREATION CAMP COUNSELOR position at City of Vero Beach?
Under close supervision, assists City staff in conducting various community recreation programs or specialty area programs; and performs related duties as assigned.
The following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.
- Assists and supports City staff or contract instructors in conducting a variety of community recreation programs or classes and/or specialty area programming such as adult or youth athletics, aquatics, after school, summer program, special programs or events including Leisure Square activities, or age appropriate activities including gymnastics and dance.
- Assists in planning organized activities for children; may lead and oversee planned activities.
- Keeps score at athletic programs.
- Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of effective customer service principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of sports rules and regulations.
- Ability to plan and participate in recreation programs and activities for target residents, and to work effectively with children of all ages.
- Ability to safely operate assigned equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, children and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Works irregular hours as scheduled including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Exposure to the elements and potential exposure to infectious disease or personal harm when working outdoors.
- Ability to lift children and to assist in moving or setting-up apparatus or gymnastics equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
- Sports apparatus or equipment, gymnastics equipment, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Enrolled in High School or High School graduate or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Service as a Junior Staff Volunteer is preferred, but not required.
