Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a talented Behvavior Specialist who has experience working with Adults diagnosed with Intellectual Disabilities and has the availability to work a variety of shifts to include days, nights, weekends and holidays for our Supportive Living Group Home Program.

Specific Duties for the BH/DS Behavior Specialist I are as follows:
- Provide and coordinate services to adults with Developmental Disabilities.
- Provide support and skill building with daily living skills, health maintenance, medication administration, personal care, and behavioral development under the direction of a Case Coordinator.
- Maintain compliance with all city and department policies and procedures as well as licensure, HCBS, and Medicaid regulations.
- Assist individuals with reaching personal goals within Individualized Support Plan (ISP); help individuals take part in activities of their choice; respect individual’s beliefs, choices, and interests.
- Support and teach good health habits; coordinate complex health care appointments, help individuals receive medical care and communicate with medical professionals.
- Support and teach individuals with tasks such as eating, personal hygiene, dressing, bathing, and using the bathroom, assist individuals with their mobility including lifting and or transferring, assist them walking and follow fall risk prevention strategies, and other related tasks.
- Provide supports at benefit appointments and completing applications, use funds ledgers to track income and spending.
- Provide support to individuals using approved techniques and strategies; able to identify, avoid and defuse many crisis situations, use approved physical intervention techniques when necessary to protect individuals and others, complete other related tasks.
- Develop skill building and community inclusion opportunities and supporting documentation.
- Understand and demonstrate city’s organizational values; comply with organization policies and procedures.

$500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $1,000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities such as, sociology, psychology, or special education. May be required to have, or obtain, a current and valid drivers license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
Three (3) or more years of experience working with adults with Developmental Disabilities.
Two (2) or more years of experience completing waiver documentation.
Two (2) or more years of experience administering medications.
Experience creating/assisting with completion of Individualized Support Plans (ISP)
Experience supporting/teaching daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, dressing, bathing/bathroom use, and mobility.
Ability to work a variety of shifts to include holidays, weekends, evenings, etc.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Salary : $43,359 - $67,207
