Job Duties:
The Virginia Aquarium is looking for an energetic, service-oriented individual who will be responsible for anticipating guest needs, exceeding expectations and implementing creative solutions to provide exceptional service. Individual must provide first-level service as needed through active listening and offering solutions that successfully balance guest and Aquarium needs. Provide exceptional guest service that transforms a day at the Aquarium from ordinary to extraordinary. Go beyond what is expected – deliver personal experiences that inspire, delight, and engage. Must be able to work in in a fast-paced environment and process guests in an expedient and friendly manner.
Duties include:
- Providing quality customer service to internal and external guests.
- Answering a multiline phone system for the purpose of providing guests with various types of directional and operational information.
- Performing all phases of scheduling and sales for admissions and special programs in the North building Guest Services office or the South building Admissions line as the lead during emergencies.
- Scheduling and processing group reservations including aquarium visits, boat trips, educational programs, and room reservations.
- Sharing duties at a customer-facing guest services desk and working admissions line on a daily rotating basis; balancing cash on hand against receipts issued and preparing nightly deposit; collecting payments; providing detailed information; responding to email inquiries; using two way radio to communicate with staff; maintaining records; filing; processing financial transactions; data entry.
- Assist in leading and providing support to the admissions line and lobby staff. Training new lobby and admissions staff.
- Handling customer complaints and confrontational situations involving guests.
- Operating office equipment; accepting deliveries; maintaining membership database.
- Run reports; track statistics; sell tickets for various activities offered at the aquarium including, aquarium admissions, boat trips, behind the scenes tours, memberships, advanced tickets, and gift certificates.
- All other duties as required.
The Virginia Aquarium is open seven days of the week, including most City holidays. The typical schedule for this position (excluding summer) is five shifts per week, 8:30am - 5:00pm with two days off, which may or may not be consecutive days. During our summer season, scheduled shifts are rotated between 8:30am - 5:00pm and 9:30am - 6:00pm to meet operational needs. You must be able to work this schedule including rotating holidays to be considered for employment.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus one (1) year of experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
- Two (2) years Customer service experience in a cultural attraction, zoo, aquarium, park, museum, themed entertainment, or related industry.
- Two (2) years customer service experience over the phone.
- Experience handling customer complaints and issues.
- Experience booking reservations; ability to plan and schedule multiple reservations for groups and individuals.
- Experience working at an information/customer service desk; experience making minor decisions and handling multiple tasks with frequent interruptions while staffing an information/customer service desk.
- Experience training and leading staff.
- Two (2) years cash handling and reconciliation experience.
- Experience with a multi venue ticketing system or customer record management system (CRM) system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Responsible person with ability to recognize potential problems and report them to a supervisor.
- Ability to pay attention to detail on all tasks.
- Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work with other employees and volunteers under unusual and occasionally stressful situations.
