Job Overview:
This position plays a crucial role in assisting with the PHOTOSafe Red Light Enforcement Program, the False Alarm Reduction Unit, and the Bus Patrol Program. Key responsibilities include reviewing and certifying PHOTOSafe violations, providing court testimony, maintaining program-related records, and responding to citizen inquiries.
Hours and Schedule:
The schedule for this position involves a four-day workweek. Two of those days will involve a hybrid schedule working remotely. Schedules will have dayshift hours.
Key Responsibilities:

PHOTOSafe Red Light Enforcement Program:
- Review and certify PHOTOSafe photo enforcement violations.
- Provide court testimony related to violations and enforcement actions.
- Maintain accurate and organized records related to PHOTOSafe operations.
- Respond to inquiries from citizens regarding violations and enforcement procedures.

False Alarm Reduction Unit:
- Review and process downloaded calls daily to assess false alarms.
- Generate appropriate responses such as warning letters, fines, and non-registration notifications.
- Ensure compliance with local ordinances and procedures.
- Address and respond to citizen questions and concerns about false alarm regulations.

Bus Patrol Program:
- Review photo enforcement violations related to the Bus Patrol Program.
- Provide court testimony as needed for violations related to bus safety and enforcement.
- Maintain records of violations and enforcement actions within the program.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and concerns related to the Bus Patrol Program.

Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Any combination of education (beyond high school) and experience equivalent to six years’ experience as a law enforcement professional or related field which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and successful completion of a police background investigation including polygraph examination is mandatory. Must have or obtain a current and valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a minimum of 18 years of age; a United States citizen or legal resident alien of the United States; and successfully complete all application requirements for registration as a Virginia DCJS special conservator of the peace, to include background investigation, and drug test. No person with a criminal conviction for a misdemeanor involving (a) moral turpitude, (b) assault and battery, (c) damage to real or personal property, (d) controlled substances or imitation controlled substances as defined in Article 1 (§ 18.2-247 et seq.) of Chapter 7 of Title 18.2, (e) prohibited sexual behavior as described in Article 7 (§ 18.2-61 et seq.) of Chapter 4 of Title 18.2, (f) firearms, or (g) any felony, shall be registered as a special conservator of the peace. In addition to existing barrier crimes, anyone who is required to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registrations is not eligible for registration with DCJS.
VCIN/NCIC Level B certification must also be maintained for the duration of employment. In addition to the successful completion of a background check, candidates must have U.S. citizenship or be a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.

Preferred applicants for this position are retired law enforcement officers with at least six (6) years experience and less than 24 months since leaving their organization.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
