Survey Aide I/II

The City of Virginia Beach, Department of Public Utilities is seeking a Survey Aide. This position performs a variety of task in support of an engineering survey party involved in system record keeping, field verification and basic survey work. The Survey Aide will assist their assigned crew in completing day to day survey tasks such as topographic surveys, transferring elevations and GIS data collection. 

The position may be classified as a Survey Aide I or Survey Aide II depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

• Survey Aide I: G.13 $30,814.70 - $47,762.79  
• Survey Aide II: G.16 $35,671.90 - $55,291.45

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

• holding a grade rod or plumb bob to determine elevations and distances
• assisting in maintaining field notes and performing minor calculations to help ensure accuracy of work
• operating electronic locating devices to mark existing utility lines. 
• digging, cutting brush, or driving hubs and guard stakes to locate or mark property boundaries
• opening covers for underground utility structures
• take neat and legible field notes
• operate utility location equipment such as a metro tech
• run a survey transit/GPS rover in conjunction with a handheld survey data collector for field data collection
• find/locate property line, operate a construction level for the transfer of elevations
