THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia's GIS Division, which works closely with the Information Services Division, is part of the Finance Department and serves the community of Visalia and all City Departments by providing GIS resources which are utilized to make every day decisions. The Division is responsible for maintaining all base mapping layers, assisting all users with their GIS needs, supporting applications which require GIS map integration, and many other GIS related functions. The division’s staff is committed to producing quality GIS resources which can be used by other City Departments as well as the Public.THE POSITION
We are recruiting for one GIS Analyst to become part of the team. The selected GIS Analyst will be jointly responsible for maintaining the quality of all GIS data, developing and maintaining integrations to all software applications which utilize or connect to the City’s GIS data, create and support GIS data collection applications, analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations as it pertains to GIS, publishing GIS resources and many other related GIS tasks. The GIS Analyst will be supporting all City Departments in their GIS needs as well as any public requests received for GIS data or resources.IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) fundamentals typically found in graduates of an accredited program with an emphasis in GIS, Geography, Life Sciences, Civil Engineering, Computer Science or related field. The ideal candidate will have experience with all ESRI products including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro and related Add-ins as well as SQL database, and will utilize their skills in these areas to successfully develop robust solutions. The ideal candidate will be organized and be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, possess good communication skills which are required to communicate with other departments and the general public, and be resourceful in determining hard to find solutions to GIS related problems. Finally, the ideal candidate must be willing and have a desire to continue learning and be mentored in the skills necessary to make the GIS Division successful.

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:

- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Data Base Administration, Computer Science or related field.
- Two years of increasingly responsible experience with a Geographic Information System.
- Experience with all ESRI products including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro and related Add-ins as well as SQL database is desirable.
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification is desirable.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
