PARALEGAL
Municipality seeking a full-time provisional paralegal for a busy municipal law office. The ideal candidate will be a confident, highly motivated, organized and detailed paralegal with litigation experience.
Responsibilities:
· Conduct legal research
· Assist in drafting court documents, such as pleadings and briefs
· Prepare trial binders, exhibits and medical binders
· Maintain attorneys’ calendars and notify attorneys of deadlines
· Monitor cases
· Answer routine correspondence and telephone inquiries
· Perform other duties as required
Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to write and draft legal documents
· Familiarity with court procedures and forms, including but not limited to pleadings and discovery
· Knowledge of basic legal concepts, terminology and processes
· Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
· Takes initiative and can work on multiple projects with competing priorities at one time
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
· Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency
· Excellent computer skills including Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work with database and spreadsheet applications
Education/Training:
· Certificate of Completion of a Paralegal Certificate Program from an accredited college or industry recognized organization. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies is preferred
· Experience: 2 years, at least one of the two years must have occurred in the past 5 years providing services to an attorney practicing in the State of Connecticut. Experience in litigation is preferred
