The Waterville Police Department is comprised of 33 sworn officers protecting a 13 square mile city in Central Maine. The city has a population of approximately 16,000 and is home to Colby and Thomas Colleges, both of which bring a diverse population of future professionals to the community. We pride ourselves on being a forward thinking, well-trained, professional agency. Our staff will assist you in the application process and facilitate the training process with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy to meet minimum training requirements for qualified candidates.

Come be part of our team! Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduate lateral entry buyouts for full time service of 5 years or less will be considered.

Starting pay is $27.22 per hour ($28.31 per hour as of July 1, 2025) and top step after six years of service is $36.58 per hour ($38.04 per hour as of July 1, 2025). Year for year lateral entry is offered for those with full time law enforcement certification and experience for both pay and vacation. Vacation begins at 1 week after 3 months of service and progresses to 5 weeks of vacation at 20 years of service. Additionally, the city observes 12 paid holidays.

The Police Department offers a comprehensive benefits package including retirement through Maine Public Employees Retirement System of 2/3 pay after 25 years of service with a yearly cost of living adjustment. Also offered is a weekly educational stipend with overtime differential based on the college degree. The city provides contractually outlined tuition reimbursement for those wishing to continue their education while employed with the Police Department.

The Waterville Police Department offers promotional advancement to Criminal Investigative Division and supervisory positions within the Patrol Division and CID. Also offered are various specialty positions, including:

· Assignment to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency as a Special Agent

· HSI Task Force Officer

· Crisis Negotiations Team

· Honor Guard assignment

· Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Instructor

· Firearms Instructor

· Urban Rifle and Pistol Armorer

· Mechanics of Arrest, Restraint, and Control Instructor

· ASP Baton Instructor

· Oleoresin Capsicum Spray Instructor

· Taser Instructor

· Drone Pilot

· PepperBall Instructor and Armorer

· FBI Task Force Officer

· Special Response Team
