The Transit Maintenance Supervisor manages and supervises all aspects of vehicle, building, and grounds maintenance for the City of Wausau Metro Ride Department. This position is responsible for maintaining Metro Ride's related equipment, supplies, and records.

Requires regular lifting, bending, twisting, turning, and use of power equipment.
ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
- Non-union position.
- Starting annual salary of $62,108.80 or higher DOQ.
- Position core schedule is 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

- Manages and supervises vehicle, building and grounds maintenance.
- Plans mechanic’s work schedule and assigns work. Supervises and inspects vehicle, building and grounds maintenance tasks.
- Develops and maintains safety procedures in compliance with Federal and State requirements. Conducts meetings with maintenance personnel dealing with a variety of topics such as shop procedures, safety programs, hazardous waste, etc.
- Advises Transit Director regarding maintenance matters.
- Performs supervisory tasks in the absence of Operations Supervisors.
- Prepares maintenance staff performance evaluations. Issues discipline. Reviews times sheets and other employee records.
- Runs errands for shop and operations.
- Posts mileage, fuel use, work orders, parts and materials used in computer database. Prints daily, monthly and annual activity reports regarding vehicle performance and expense from compiled data.
- Prepares fuel reorder and parts inventory reports. Estimates future fuel and parts use. Orders fuel, parts or schedules vehicle service based on reports.
- Requests bids and issues purchase orders for parts, fuel, equipment and services. Records purchase. Contacts vendors regarding parts prices and availability. Approves parts invoices, reviews packing slips and posts to parts to inventory lists.
- Charts fuel tank levels.
- Investigates accidents involving transit vehicles and estimates damage.
- Maintains knowledge of bus maintenance and repair techniques, tools, materials and principles; and safety policies and practices regarding bus transportation.
- Researches and evaluates vehicles, equipment and services. Writes technical specifications for same.
- Other duties as required and assigned.
- Picks-up supplies and places in storage.
- Road tests vehicles.
- Sweeps/cleans, plows/sands/salts Metro Ride Facilities.
- Maintains communication with various on-duty personnel.
- Fuels vehicles as needed.
- High School diploma or equivalent, and
- Vocational/technical training in heavy equipment repair, and
- Minimum of three (3) years vehicle/equipment repair supervisory experience, and
- Ability to obtain and maintain Class B CDL w/Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic Level – MS Word and Excel
- Proficient user of Fleet & Facility Software specific to Transit departmental functions. (mileage based)
- Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. Ability to compare, count, differentiates, measure and /or sort, as well as assemble, copy, record and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, computes, tabulates, and categorizes data.
- Ability to counsel, mediate and/or provide first line supervision. Ability to persuade, convince, and train others. Ability to advise and provide interpretation regarding the application of policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.
- Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as vehicle maintenance records, invoices, purchases, time sheets, electrical diagrams, blueprints, maintenance reports, billing statements, maintenance and repair manuals, parts manuals, computer software operating manuals, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Transit personnel, vendor representatives and customers.
- Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to use functional reasoning in performing influence functions such as supervising, managing, leading, teaching, directing and controlling.
- Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory and/or judgmental criteria.
- Ability to operate equipment and machinery with some requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as transit vehicles, mechanic’s hand and power tools, cleaning equipment and computer terminal.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing skilled movements such as keyboard use.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of sounds and orders associated with job related objects, materials and tasks.
