Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the entry-level position in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this position are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II position by the experience and expertise of their duties. This position holds no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction, assistance, or supervision as new or unusual situations arise. They are aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit as appropriate for an entry-level position.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class.Participate in repairing and maintaining city right-of-way, including operating various tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.Assist with repairing or replacing concrete or asphalt pavement in the streets, sidewalks, and other pavement within the street right-of-way.Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city rights-of-way, including mowing, pot-hole repair, tree maintenance, and drainage repair of pipes, ditches, and creeks; Operate various light equipment, including mowers, tillers, pickup trucks, chainsaws, etc.Maintain and make minor repairs to assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment; report significant repair needs.Use proper safety procedures, personal protective equipment, and appropriate traffic control for work performed.Assist other departments with set-up, cleaning, and traffic control during special events.Provide labor for clean-up and demolition of condemned buildings.Follow the supervisor’s direction regarding public interaction.Performs other duties as assigned.
