Job Announcement:
The City of Webster's Municipal Court Division is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Court Clerk. This position is primarily responsible for assisting defendants with their options, including driver's safety courses, deferred dispositions, payment plans, and attending court. This position is also responsible for processing payments, driver's safety courses and deferred disposition orders, and dismissals. The clerk will also perform various clerical duties related to court procedures, laws, and record keeping.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have an associate degree, or two (2) years of related professional experience, preferred. The ability to obtain Level I Texas Municipal Courts Education Center Certification within the first two years of employment, required. Bilingual preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Work requires strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Must provide superior customer service.
- Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel and an ability to create and manipulate documents and spreadsheets.
- Must possess strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to work with the public, attorneys, and other City employees.
- Must have the ability to handle and process large amounts of cash. Must be able to post payments properly and to the correct defendant.
- Must be able to process driver's safety courses and deferred disposition orders.
- Must understand mandatory and discretionary dismissals and be able to process accordingly.
- Must be able to work independently to make appropriate decisions in order to proceed with cases. This involves using education, analytical skills and legal knowledge.
- Must be able to take on delegated duties that do not require a Judicial ruling or a Prosecutorial decision and have the knowledge to know the difference.
- Must be able to pass the required tests in order to utilize several police, County, and State databases (TCIC/NCIC, SETCIC, OMNIBASE, Central Square, CRASH, etc.)
- Must be able to read, use, and interpret the Texas Transportation Code and the Code of Criminal Procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Deputy Court Administrator or Court Administrator.
- Must qualify for a surety bond; a previous bankruptcy may disqualify one from being bondable.
