Position SummaryPerforms difficult skilled and technical work in connection with the construction, maintenance and operation of the electric utility distribution system. Essential Functions
Education/Licenses: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from a powerline school or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Possession of a valid Kansas commercial drivers license within three months of employment.
Technical Skills: Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the erection and maintenance of electric lines. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and the safety precautions to be taken. Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions. Skill in the use and care of tools.
Problem Solving: Problem solving is important on trouble calls to trouble shoot and correct electrical problem in an effective and safe manner with direct supervision.
Decision-Making: Decisions will follow safety procedures, and instructions from supervisor. May at times make important decisions if supervisor is not present.
Supervision: Direct supervision by Distribution Supervisor and Crew Leader. May at times be assigned duties to be accomplished without direct supervision based upon experience. Supervision may be exercised over other crew members.
Accountability: Not responsible for cash receipts or budget expenditures.
Personal Relations: Frequent contact with public. Must be able to work closely with other crew members in a team effort.
Working Conditions: Exposure to adverse weather conditions from ice and lightening storms.
Physical Requirements: Physical strength and stamina to perform manual work, climb poles, and operate line equipment.

- Climbs poles, operates bucket truck, installs hardware, fuses transformers and pulls wire;
- Assembles and fastens hardware and sets poles;
- Maintains existing high and low voltage lines;
- Strings, splices, and tie in wire;
- Uses hot line equipment and tools;
- Replaces malfunctioning equipment on poles;
- Installs, repairs, and maintains underground high and low voltage lines;
- Installs transformers and other auxiliary equipment;
- Install or replace crossarm cut outs and arrestors;
- Carries out ground work before and at the conclusion of a job;
- Performs tree trimming and runs bush hog;
- Maintains street lights;
- Makes up materials
- Required to be on stand-by and work trouble calls.
- Handles meter orders.
- Handles PCB requirements to meet EPA regulations.
- Supervises line crew in absence of Crew Leader;
- Performs related tasks as required.
