Job Summary
Responsible for circulating the library collection, collecting fines, oversees, and calls for overdue materials, performs collection maintenance, assists patrons with questions and problems with computers. Assists with the Theater Complex programming and maintenance. Employee is required to support activities of the Summer Reading Program (SRP) and perform all similar or related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
- Regularly update and manage website content, including new event postings, resource links, announcements and library information.
- Design and implement website updates, including visual and structural changes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the website and liaise with IT support for technical resolutions
- Create and manage online forms for library services (e.g., event registration, program sign-ups).
- Collaborate with library staff to gather content, photos, and program details for publication.
- Ensure website accessibility and compliance with relevant web standards.
- Assists with regular activities of the Circulation Department, special projects, and with shelf reading and collection shifting projects.
- Implements the Summer Feeding Program in collaboration with Weslaco ISD.
- Assists in planning and executing the Summer Reading Program.
- Occasionally serves as a backup for overflow of cataloging work.
- Perform monetary transactions of library cash register
- Assists with Theater and Meeting Room events and reservations
- Assists patrons with procedures and collection recovery of overdue items.
- Assists with library outreach events
- Assists patrons with computing or informational needs
- Register new patron and issue library cards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding information obtained during performance of regular responsibilities.
- May be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
- One (1) year of related work experience to perform such job.
- Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
- Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
- Some knowledge of municipal library operations.
- Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with the public and other personnel.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks.
- Proficient computer skills, mathematical skills, recordkeeping, and clerical skills, written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient customer service.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Work involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing.
- Occasional lifting of objects such as books, office equipment and computer paper (up to 30 lbs.)
- May occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephone system, computer and/or most other office equipment, typing and/or word processing, filing, and sorting.
