What are the responsibilities and job description for the Circulation Services Representative Part-Time position at City of West Allis?
The Circulation Services Representative is a very important customer service oriented position at the West Allis Public Library. Yours will be the first face patrons see entering the Library and the last when they exit. You will interact with patrons to provide information in response to inquiries about circulation services, library account statuses, and work to resolve issues by providing solutions in accordance with established Library guidelines.
12-20 hours per week during Library hours of operation:
M-TH: 9 am – 8:30 pm, F&S: 9 am – 5:30 pm, Su: 1 -5 pm
Check library materials in/out to patrons.
Answer general inquiries about materials, patron records, library policies, etc. in person and via telephone.
Discharge requested items, label, alphabetize, and shelve for later retrieval.
Assist patrons with various services: scanning, self-check out, faxing, photocopying.
Create and update new patron records in databases and issue library cards.
Assess patron needs and refer to the department/person most able to help.
Collect cash payments on late fines, sales items, faxes, etc.
Load items onto truck/cars, roll to back workroom, pack delivery bins.
Accept and assess damaged or unusual items from patrons or pages. Repair, if possible, or make determination on where to send.
Notify patrons of damaged items and attach bills to accounts.

High school diploma/equivalent.
Recent paid customer service experience, clerical and cash handling work experience; recent Library related work experience or coursework desirable.
Good written and verbal communication skills, including solid listening and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with groups of people from diverse backgrounds
