JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, the Recreation Aide plays a key role in the success of the City of West Hollywood's summer programs. You will be responsible for assisting in a variety of recreation programs such as Day Camp, Youth programs, special events, and provide excellent customer service to our park patrons. This is an entry-level position and a great opportunity to gain experience in recreation or the public sector! Prior and current experience working with the public or children is desirable. Experience may include volunteer work.

  • Work schedule and work locations may vary. Work locations include : West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) and Plummer Park.
  • Must be available to work for the entire duration of Summer Camp Program : Monday, June 16th to Friday, August 8, 2025 (8 weeks).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and / or on-call status.
  • Must be able to work an average of 20 hours per week.
  • Must be 14 years of age or older.

Recreation Aide - Important Dates :

  • Mandatory Summer Camp Training, CPR & First Aid Training : Thursday, June 12th (8AM-5PM) and Friday, June 13th (1PM-5PM)
  • Selection process : As part of the selection process, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a group activity assessment and an interview with the Recreation Leadership Team. The group activities and interviews will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 .

  • Assists in leading recreation activities.
  • Maintains inventory of playground supplies.
  • Assists in room and facility set-up when necessary.
  • Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as filing and answering phones.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    No specific minimum education required.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must meet the minimum age requirement of 14 years old prior to new hire orientation (May 6, 2025).
  • If under 18, must have a valid work permit prior to employment. Please contact your school's Job Counselor / Career Center for more information regarding a work permit.
  • Must show proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Documentation may include (but is not limited to) : Passport, Social Security card, school ID, California Drivers License, California ID.
  • Candidates 18 years of age or older must complete a CPR Code 5164 Background Questionnaire prior to hire.
  • Candidates selected for hire will be required to successfully complete a City-paid physical and background check.

  • Assist in recreation games and follow written and oral instructions.
  • This position is a temporary position and not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City except those mandated by federal or state law.

    Temporary employees will receive leave accruals based upon actual hours worked with eight (8) hours paid vacation for every 160 actual hours worked and one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 20 actual hours worked with a maximum sick leave accrual of 40 hours. Eight (8) hours paid holiday time will be granted to temporary employees who have 70 or more hours of paid time in the pay period in which the recognized City holiday occurs.

    If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th), they are then enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
